Teen Skin Care Is Crucial
It's important that you start caring for your skin and protecting it now so you can preserve its youthful qualities for today and prevent premature aging in the future. Damage on the surface of your skin takes years to show up, which is why it’s so important to start a healthy skin care routine early. While you can’t change your genes, proper skin care can help you overcome a multitude of conditions, including oily and acne prone skin.
Treat Your Teen Skin With Gentle Care
Do you believe that if a product is stronger it is better? That may be true for some things but it is not true for your skin. As a teen, your skin may be more resilient but harsh products may do more harm than good, especially if you suffer from acne or other skin irritations.
Begin A Skin Care Regimen
First you should begin with a teen facial to give your skin a clean foundation to start with. Your treatment will include cleansing, towel steaming, exfoliation, light extractions and an appropriate mask for your skin type, moisturizer and SPF 30 sunblock. We will then come up with a planned skin care regimen designed especially for you. Until you can come in for your facial you need to focus on cleansing, toning, moisturizing and covering up. Save the bar of soap in the shower for your body; don’t use it on your face. Teen skin is a lot different than that of adults so don’t rely on your mom’s facial cleansers and moisturizers because they are probably not meant for your skin type. Use a multipurpose product like AYUR-MEDIC’S Mild Cleansing Gel and then you can follow up with a Toner to prep your skin for the next step of Moisturizing. Make sure to wash your face first thing in the morning and before you go to bed. You will see a tremendous difference in your skin within a few weeks. I’ve had teens say to me “I don’t need a moisturizer, I have oily skin.” That is just not true, what you need is a light oil-free moisturizer to put on after you cleanse and tone. AYUR-MEDIC’S Clearifying cream for Oily/Acne prone skin or Enhancing Cream for Normal skin are good choices. Remember always moisturize after you wash and dry your face. If your skin is very oily, you may choose to just moisturize in the morning.
The Sun Is NOT Your Friend
Sunscreen is one of the most important parts of a healthy skincare regimen. More and more teens are getting skin cancer every year. Even if you don’t get skin cancer the damage the sun can do during your teen years will turn into premature wrinkles, age spots and dryness.
Sunblock should be applied on top of moisturizer, whether you are heading to the beach or not. You should be using an SPF of at least 30, no matter the time of year. You can apply it generously to your entire face and neck, don’t forget your ears. You should also avoid tanning beds, if you want that healthy “sun-kissed” look use a topical self tanner for your body and AYUR-MEDIC’S Sheer Tinted SPF 30 for your face. It will give you the sun protection that you need while evening out your skin tone at the same time.
If acne is a problem for you, know that you are not alone. I know it can be embarrassing and frustrating but there are things you can do. Try not to stress about the acne you already have; use AYUR-MEDIC'S Spot healing Gel on the pimples you have now and start your new “cleansing, toning, moisturizing and covering up” regimen and you will notice a difference soon!
